Adaware, a product from cybersecurity company Lavasoft, (formerly known as Ad-Aware) is designed to fight the various types of malware and privacy infringements that many users are unaware. This includes programs that reroute your surfing habits, programs that hijack your browser start web page and apps that display annoying advertising at the most unsettling times. This free program also offers many additional features to boost security and keep your device running efficiently.

In our tests, adaware was able to detect most of the malware we tried to throw at it. It did have trouble removing some malware, however. The program comes with a few useful features, including privacy monitors and a registry scanner. It also includes a file shredder, advanced network monitoring, as well as a privacy monitor. Adaware doesn’t offer the same level of protection as leading antivirus software.

Adaware’s most recent participation in AV Test tests in the lab resulted in the blocking of just 95. 4% of 0-day risks and 97% of known threats. These aren’t bad scores however they aren’t as good as the most powerful security suites accomplish.

Adware users who want to perform better, should look at alternatives. We recommend Kaspersky and Bitdefender both of which are well-known for their reliability in real-world tests. Additionally, only Pro and Total plan users get access to online technical and customer support. This can be a bit disappointing for some users. The company does offer a range of information and frequently asked questions on its website, however.
